- PLUCKING CORN AND HEALING ON THE SABBATH -

The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath  [* 1.Samuel 21:1-7 compare 1.Samuel 22:22]
MATTHEW 12
1At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the grain; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. 2But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, Behold, your disciples do that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath day. 3But he said to them, Have you not read what David and those who were with him did, when he was hungry,; 4How he entered into the house of God, and ate the show bread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them who were with him, but only for the priests? 5Or have you not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? 6But I say to you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. 7But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless. 8For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day
MARK 2
23And it came to pass, that he went through the grain fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. 24And the Pharisees said to him, Behold, why do they do that which is not lawful on the sabbath day? 25And he said to them, Have you never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry, he and those who were with him? 26How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the show bread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him? 27And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
LUKE 6
1And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. 2And certain of the Pharisees said to them, Why do you do that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days? 3And Jesus answering them said, Have you not read so much as this, what David did, when he himself and those who were with him were hungry; 4How he went into the house of God, and took and ate the show bread, and also gave it to those who were with him; which it is not lawful to eat except for the priests alone? 5And he said to them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

The man's withered hand cured on the Sabbath
MATTHEW 12
9And when he was departed from there, he went into their synagogue: 10aAnd, behold, there was a man who had his hand withered.
MARK 3
1And he entered again into the synagogue; and a man was there who had a withered hand.
LUKE 6
6And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
10bAnd they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? so that they might accuse him. 2And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; so that they might accuse him. 7And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.
MARK 3
3And he said to the man who had the withered hand, Stand.
LUKE 6
8But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand in the midst. And he arose and stood.
4And he said to them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. 9Then said Jesus to them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
MATTHEW 12
11And he said to them, What man shall there be among you, who shall have one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? 12How much then is a man better than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
MARK 3
5aAnd when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved because of the hardness of their hearts,
LUKE 6
10aAnd looking round about on them all,
MATTHEW 12
13Then he said to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like the other.
MARK 3
5bhe said to the man, Stretch out your hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
LUKE 6
10b he said to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
14Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him. 6And the Pharisees went out, and immediately took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him. 11And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

15a But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from there:
MARK 3

MARK 3

9And he spoke to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.

MATTHEW 12
15c and he healed them all;
MARK 3
10For he had healed many; so that as many as had plagues pressed on him to touch him. 11And when they saw him unclean spirits fell down before him and cried, saying, You are the Son of God.

12And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.
MATTHEW 12
17That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, 18Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit on him, and he shall show judgment to the Gentiles. 19He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. 20A bruised reed he shall not break, and smoking flax he shall not quench, till he sends forth judgment to victory. 21And in his name shall the Gentiles trust. (Isaiah 42:1 & 61:1)

A demoniac healed. The Scribes and Pharisees blaspheme
MATTHEW 12
22 Then [Greek tote] one possessed with a devil was brought to him, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, so that the blind and dumb both saw and spoke. 23And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
MARK 3
19b and they went into a house. 20And the multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. 21And when his friends heard of it , they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
LUKE 11
14And he was casting out a demon, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the demon had gone out, the dumb spoke; and the people wondered.
MATTHEW 12
24But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow does not cast out devils, except by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
MARK 3
22And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, He has Beelzebub, and by the prince of the demons he casts out demons.
LUKE 11
15But some of them said, He casts out demons through Beelzebub the chief of the demons. 16And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. [see v.29]
25And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: 26And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then shall his kingdom stand? 23And he called them to him , and said to them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? 24And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26And if Satan rises up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but has an end. 17But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falls. 18If Satan also is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because you say that I cast out demons through Beelzebub.
MATTHEW 12
27And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.28But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come to you.
LUKE 11
19And if I by Beelzebub cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges20But if I with the finger of God cast out demons, no doubt the kingdom of God is come to you.
MATTHEW 12
29Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
MARK 3
27No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first binds the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
LUKE 11
21When an armed strong man keeps his palace, his goods are in peace: 22But when a stronger than he shall come on him, and overcome him, he takes from him all his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils.

23He who is not with me is against me: and he who does not gather with me scatters. cp. Luke 9:50
MATTHEW 12
31Therefore I say to you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven to men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven to men. 32And whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but who ever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this age nor in the pending one.

MARK 3
28Verily I say to you, All sins shall be forgiven to the sons of men, and blasphemes however they might blaspheme: 29But he who shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:* 30Because they said, He has an unclean spirit.

MATTHEW 12
33Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by its fruit. 34O generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36But I say to you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account of in the day of judgment. 37For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.

THEY ASK FOR A SIGN
MATTHEW 12
38Then [tote] certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from you. 39But he answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and no sign shall be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah: 40For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, a greater than Jonah is here. 42The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
LUKE 11
[see v.16] 29And when the people were heavily gathered together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and no sign shall be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet. 30For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also shall the Son of man be to this generation. 31The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. 32The men of Nineveh shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, a greater than Jonah is here.
LUKE 11
33 No man, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a lamp stand, that those who come in may see the light. 34The light of the body is the eye: therefore when your eye is single, your whole body is also full of light; but when your eye is evil, your body is also full of darkness. 35Take heed therefore that the light which is in you is not darkness. 36If your whole body therefore is full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light.
MATTHEW 12
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44Then he said, I will return into my house where I came from; and when he is come, he finds it empty, swept, and garnished. 45Then he goes and takes with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also to this wicked generation.
LUKE 11
24When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, I will return to my house where I came from. 25And when he comes, he finds it swept and garnished. 26Then he goes, and takes to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
LUKE 11
27And it came to pass, as he spoke these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said to him, Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the paps which you have sucked.28But he said, Yes rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.

THE LORD JESUS' DISCIPLES ARE HIS CLOSE FAMILY
MATTHEW 12
46But whilst [Greek: eti] he yet spoke to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, desiring to speak with him. 47Then one said to him, Behold, your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to speak with you. 48But he answered and said to him who told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brothers? 49And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brothers! 50For whoever shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
MARK 3
31Then [Greek: oun] his brothers and his mother came there, and, standing outside they sent to him, calling him. 32And the multitude sat about him, and they said to him, Behold, your mother and your brothers are outside seeking you. 33And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brothers? 34And he looked round about on those who sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brothers! 35For whoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother
LUKE 8
19However [Greek: de] his mother and his brothers came to him, and could not come to him because of the multitude. 20And it was told him by certain who said, your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to see you. 21And he answered and said to them, My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God, and do it.

HE DINES WITH A PHARISEE
LUKE 11
37And as he spoke, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat. 38And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed before dinner. 39And the Lord said to him, Now you Pharisees make the outside of the cup and the platter clean; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. 40You fools, did not he who made that which is without make that which is within also? 41But rather give alms of such things as you have; and, behold, all things are clean to you. 42But woe to you, Pharisees! for you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these you ought to have done, and not to leave the other undone. 43Woe to you, Pharisees! for you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. 44Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are as graves which do not appear so, and the men who walk over them are not aware of them. 45Then answered one of the lawyers, and said to him, Master, saying thus you reproach us also. 46And he said, Woe to you also, you lawyers! for you lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.
LUKE 11
47Woe to you! for you build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.48Truly you bear witness that you allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and you build their sepulchers. 49Therefore also the wisdom of God says I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute: 50That the blood of all the prophets, which has been shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; 51From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say to you, It shall be required of this generation.

52Woe to you, lawyers! for you have taken away the key of knowledge: you did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in you hindered. 53And as he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things: 54Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, so that they might accuse him.

LUKE 12
1 In the mean time [Greek: en oiV], when an innumerable multitude of people were gathered together, so that they trod on one another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hidden, that shall not be known. 3Therefore what ever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which you have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed on the housetops. 4And I say to you my friends, Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him, who after he has killed has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, Fear him. 6Are not five sparrows sold for two tenths of a drachma, and not one of them is forgotten before God? 7But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows. 8Also I say to you, Who ever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: 9But he who denies me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. 10And who ever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit it shall not be forgiven. 11And when they bring you to the synagogues, and to magistrates, and powers, take no thought how or what thing you shall answer, or what you shall say: 12For the Holy Spirit shall teach you in the same hour what you ought to say.

LUKE 12
13And one of the company said to him, Master, speak to my brother, that he may divide the inheritance with me. 14And he said to him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?15And he said to them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life does not consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses. 16And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18And he said, This I will do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20But God said to him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have provided? 21So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

LUKE 12
22And he said to his disciples, Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat; neither for the body, what you shall put on. 23The life is more than food, and the body is more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; they have neither storehouses nor barns; and God feeds them: how much more are you better than the fowls? 25And which of you by taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? 26If you then are not able to do that thing which is least, why do you take thought for the rest? 27Consider the lilies how they grow: they do not toil, they do not spin; and yet I say to you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28If then God so clothes the grass, which is in the field today, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith? 29And do not seek what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, neither be of doubtful mind. 30For all these things the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knows that you have need of these things.31But rather seek the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added to you. 32Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33Sell what you have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches, neither does moth corrupt. 34For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 35Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; 36And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately.

LUKE 12
37Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching: verily I say to you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to food, and will come out and serve them. 38And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

41 Peter said to him, Lord, Do you speak this parable to us, or even to all? 42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? 43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing. 44 Of a truth I say to you, that he will make him ruler over all that he has. 45 But and if that servant says in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he does not look for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him asunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

3b Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them: 5Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth: and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of earth: 6And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up, and choked them: 8But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. 9Who has ears to hear, let him hear.
MARK 4
3Listen; Behold, a sower went out to sow: 4And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. 5And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: 6But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. 7And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. 8And other fell on good ground, and yielded fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some a hundred. 9And he said to them, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
LUKE 8
5A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. 6And some fell on a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. 7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. 8And others fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bore fruit a hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

Why do you speak in parables?
MATTHEW 13
10And the disciples came, and said to him, Why do you speak to them in parables? 11a He answered and said to them, Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven,
MARK 4
10And when he was alone, those who were about him with the twelve asked the parable of him. 11a And he said to them, To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God:
LUKE 8
9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? 10a And he said, To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God:
MATTHEW 13
11b  but it is not given to them. 12For who ever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but who ever has not, even what he has shall be taken away from him.
MATTHEW 13
13Therefore I speak to them in parables: because they seeing. see not; and hearing, hear not, neither do they understand.
MARK 4
11b but to those who are outside, all these things are done in parables: 12a So that seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand;
LUKE 8
10b but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
MATTHEW 13
14And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, who said, By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive: 15a For this people's heart is grown gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes;
MATTHEW 13
15b lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
MARK 4
12b lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
MATTHEW 13
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. 17For verily I say to you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.

The parable of the sower explained.
MATTHEW 13
18Hear therefore the parable of the sower. 19When any one hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes, and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the way side. 20But he who received the seed in stony places, the same is he who hears the word, and anon with joy receives it; 21Yet has he no root in himself, but endures for a while: but when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended. 22He also who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word; and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23But he who received seed in the good ground is he who hears the word, and understands it; who also bears fruit, and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
MARK 4
13And he said to them, Do you not know this parable? and how then will you know any parables? 14The sower sows the word. 15And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan comes immediately, and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17And have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they are offended. 18And these are those who are sown among thorns; they are such as hear the word, 19And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, chokes the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20And these are those who are sown on good ground; they are such as hear the word, and receive it , and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.
LUKE 8
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those by the way side are those who hear; then the devil comes, and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13 They on the rock are they, who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; but these have no root, who for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns are they, who, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 15 But that on the good ground are those who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

A LAMP IS PUT ON A STAND
MARK 4
21And he said to them, Is a lamp brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a lamp stand? 22For there is nothing hidden which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. 23If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. 24And he said to them, Take heed what you hear: with what measure you measure, it shall be measured to you: and to you who hear more shall be given. 25For he who has, to him shall be given: and he who has not, from him even that which he has shall be taken.
LUKE 8
16 No man, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel, or puts it under a bed; but sets it on a lampstand, so that those who enter in may see the light. 17For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hidden, that shall not be known and come abroad.18Take heed therefore how you hear: for whoever has, to him shall be given; and whoever has not, from him shall be taken even that which he seems to have.

THE TARES
MATTHEW 13
24 He put forth another parable to them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field: 25But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 26But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then the tares also appeared. 27So the servants of the householder came and said to him, Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? where then are the tares from? 28 He said to them, An enemy has done this. The servants said to him, Will you then that we go and gather them up? 29But he said, No; lest while you gather up the tares, you root up also the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather together the tares first, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

THE SEED IS SOWN AND THE HARVEST COMES
MARK 4
26And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; 27And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he does not know how. 28For the earth brings forth fruit of itself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. 29But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.

THE MUSTARD SEED
MATTHEW 13
31 He put forth another parable to them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: 32Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches.
MARK 4
30And he said, To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it? 31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth: 32But when it is sown, it grows up, and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under its shadow.

THE LEAVEN IN MEAL
MATTHEW 13
33He spoke another parable to them; The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

THE LORD USED MANY PARABLES
MATTHEW 13
34All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and he did not speak to them without a parable:
MARK 4
33And with many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear. 34a But he did not speak to them without a parable:
MATTHEW 13
35That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
MARK 4
34b and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

THE TARES EXPLAINED
MATTHEW 13
36 Then [Greek: tote] Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came to him, saying, Declare to us the parable of the tares of the field. 37He answered and said to them, He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; 38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. 40As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and those who do iniquity; 42And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who ever has ears to hear, let him hear.

44Again, the kingdom of heaven is like to treasure hid in a field; which when a man has found it, he hides it, and for the joy of it goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field. 45Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. 47Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 48Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. 49So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, 50And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 51Jesus said to them, Have you understood all these things? They said to him, Yes, Lord. 52Then he said to them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed to the kingdom of heaven is like to a man who is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new things and old.

53And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.
